Allow Meet and Chat notifications in a browser
By default, Chrome alerts you whenever a website, app, or extension wants to send you notifications. You can change this setting at any time.
If you’re browsing in Incognito mode, you won’t get notifications.
Update notification settings in Chrome
If you turned off notifications for Meet and Chat, you can turn them back on.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More

Settings. - Under Privacy and security, click Site settings.
- Click Notifications.
- Select the Meet or Chat entry and click More

Update notification settings in other browsers
If you're using a product that supports additional web browsers, such as Chat, you must turn on notifications for that product in your browser. Each browser requires different steps for turning on notifications; see the online help for your browser for more information.
Control notifications for Meet in Gmail
We recommend keeping Chat and Gmail notifications on so you can easily get back to an in-progress meeting, for example when you're in another app. However, if you must turn off notifications for chats and Gmail messages, follow these steps:
Note: This feature is available only for Android mobile devices.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app
. - At the top left, tap Menu
, then Settings 
- Select your account.
- Tap Notifications and select Meet notifications only.
Control notifications for Chat in Gmail
You can control what notifications you get on mobile devices for Chat in Gmail.
For all conversations
- Open the Gmail app
. - At the top left, tap Menu
, then Settings 
- Select your account.
- Tap Chat mobile notifications and choose an option:
- All Messages—Get a notification for all direct messages and all messages in spaces.
- New threads, threads I’m following and direct messages—Get a notification for all direct messages, the first message of every new thread, and all threads you’re following.
- Threads I’m following and direct messages—Get a notification for all direct messages and threads you’re following.
- Only @mentions and direct messages—Get a notification for direct messages and @mentions in Spaces.
- Off—Turn off all notifications.
For a specific space or conversation
- Open the Gmail app
. - Tap the Chat tab or Spaces tab.
- Tap the name of the person or space.
- At the top, next to the name of the person or space, tap the Right arrow .
- Tap Notifications to turn notifications on or off for that space or conversation.
Even if you turn off notifications, you still get a notification for @mentions and direct messages.
